# Token-gated roles

Grant a cohort an existing Discord role and Freeside starts auditing it: who
qualifies, who holds it, and where the two disagree.

During the alpha Freeside is **observation-only** - it tells you when a role
and its condition drift apart, with the evidence to act on it yourself.
Automatic role sync is the planned graduation: once the audit has proven
itself accurate in your community, flipping from shadow to active is a mode
switch, not a migration.

* Multiple cohorts can grant multiple roles.
* Balances sum across a member's linked wallets.
* Editing a granted cohort recompiles its grants; stale grants can't exist.
